WOULD YOU/ COULD YOU / BE MINE?
May 30th - July 11th, 2025
The Good Stuff Gallery, Buffalo, NY

WOULD YOU / COULD YOU / BE MINE? was Jamey’s first major site-specific installation, hosted by The Good Stuff in Allentown, Buffalo. The piece featured 44 hand-printed letterpress posters and an 8’ x 5.5’ painted mural. The posters, inspired by Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, were tiled over top of the mural, initially concealing it. As the posters were sold, they were removed from the wall, revealing a portion (1/36th) of the mural at a time. Viewers interacted with the piece by choosing which poster to remove based on which piece of the mural they wanted to see. Over the course of the exhibition, the piece was constantly changing, as the character of the shapes made by the uncovered sections of mural changed every time another print was taken down.

Artist's statement:

I had the honor of being asked to be the Pride artist for 2025 (and the tragic privilege of being the last show that Mickey Harmon ever booked). It didn't feel right after that just to show my body of work, I felt like it was important for me to make something new and ambitious. And I wanted it to include my first mural, because Mickey and I had been talking about me learning to do murals. After he was gone, at first, it felt like I would never do it now without his help. But that’s not what he would have wanted, and others in the Buffalo art community have stepped up to support me in his place. I’m so proud that I was able to complete the mural with the help of YAMES, Bobby Griffiths and Sarah Liddell. The Mister Rogers theme was inspired by Mickey and how he modeled being a good neighbor to all of us.
“It’s my Buffalo, it’s your Buffalo, we are neighbors.”

This project would absolutely not have been possible without the help and guidance of my friend Yames Moffit

On opening night, the mural was completely hidden behind the prints until the illusion was broken by ceremonially taking down the first poster.

On the closing night of the exhibition, the remaining posters were taken off the wall and the full mural was finally revealed for the first time.
