Jameson Alea (they/he) is a printmaker and artist based in Buffalo, NY. They attended Canisius University for their undergraduate degree, studying digital art and computer science, with a concentration in film and photography. After graduation, they worked as a software engineer for a decade, gaining a positive reputation in the tech industry for their contributions at tech conferences, speaking on issues of DEI, mental health, and engineering ethics.
In the early 2020s, Jamey discovered the joys of analog art and let that draw him back into the art world. He started working closely with the WNY Book Arts Center, and has since helped out in a variety of roles there and become their primary letterpress teaching artist. He was further trained in the tradition of letterpress at the historic Hatch Show Print in Nashville, TN, and he now specializes in show posters and the use of wooden type.
Teaching letterpress made Jamey realize how much he loves to share art with students, and it ultimately led him to decide to go back to school and study Art Education, and he is currently pursuing his second degree at Buffalo State University.
Jamey started Fire Ecology Press in 2022, after he successfully finished his first big project, the Tarot of Sorts. (He has also been creating zines under the name Fire Ecology Publishing since 2016, which is where the name comes from!) Since then, FEP has evolved into an online store, a small popup shop that can often be found at artist’s markets in the western NY area, and a business that accepts commission-based projects designing handmade prints.
